Vigié crowns successful Canadian weekend with victory in closing criterium

Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women enjoyed a successful weekend in Canada. After Lieke Nooijen’s time trial win on Friday and Nienke Veenhoven’s victory on Saturday, Margaux Vigié capped things off on Sunday evening by winning the final criterium with a solo effort.

On Friday, Nooijen, Vigié and Carlijn Achtereekte competed in the Chrono de Gatineau, a 22-kilometer individual time trial. There, Nooijen powered to her first victory of the season. Vigié and Achtereekte impressed with third and fourth place. For Nooijen, the win was especially rewarding after a long recovery in the spring. The 23-year-old Dutch rider also has her sights set high on the upcoming European Championship time trial.

On Saturday, Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women struck again in the Tour de Gatineau. The riders of the black-and-yellow squad delivered a strong team performance. Veenhoven sprinted to victory ahead of her teammates Martina Fidanza, Vigié and Nooijen.

Sunday evening, the Tour de Gatineau concluded with a criterium. In the streets of Gatineau, Vigié launched a long solo attack. The 30-year-old French rider secured a perfect three out of three for Team Visma | Lease a Bike.

"the team has shown its very best"

Team Manager Rutger Tijssen

Rutger Tijssen, Team Manager of the women’s squad, looked back with satisfaction on the Canadian triple. “Over the past three days, the team has shown its very best,” said the 51-year-old Dutchman. “We return home with three victories, but the most important thing is that we showed ourselves as a collective. We have been an inspiration for women’s cycling in Canada.”

“Lieke’s win in the time trial was an excellent rehearsal for the European Championships time trial in early October. The following days we delivered strong collective performances time and again. This past weekend was an opportunity for us to build routines in the peloton. We look back with satisfaction on a well-organized three-day cycling event.”
