Antwan Tolhoek takes KOM-jersey in Tour de Pologne

Antwan Tolhoek is the new leader of the KOM-classification in the Tour de Pologne. Just like yesterday, Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 23-year-old rider was in the breakaway. During the race he collected enough points for the KOM-jersey. After a tough day the Australian Jack Haig took the victory. Floris De Tier finished eighteenth after his bad crash of a few days ago.

It wasn’t easy at all for Antwan Tolhoek today. “It was difficult for me to be in the breakaway for the second consecutive day”, Tolhoek said afterwards. “When I was finally in the leading group, I made a goal of the KOM-jersey. Moser was faster in the first and the second sprint, but in the end I was stronger. I won the third sprint and took the KOM-jersey. I’m very happy with the outcome after a bad third stage earlier this week.”

Sports director Grischa Niermann was also satisfied. “It was a tactical race at the beginning”, he stated. “First of all, we wanted to defend Bert-Jan Lindeman’s blue jersey. Therefore we had to keep an eye on his competitors. Afterwards, Antwan Tolhoek was in the breakaway and he rode very well. Moren Moser was the strongest in the first and the second sprint uphill, but Antwan Tolhoek caught more points eventually and took the KOM-jersey. However, everything is still possible. It will be a very exciting stage tomorrow."
