Eenkhoorn most active rider in Tour of Guangxi

Pascal Eenkhoorn has attacked again in the Tour of Guangxi. Just like yesterday, he was part of the breakaway. The rider from Team LottoNL-Jumbo was designated as the most active rider of the fifth stage.

“In the beginning of the race, I rode attentively”, Eenkhoorn said. “When I saw Tony Martin and Ryan Mullen leave, I thought: I shouldn’t let them go. I jumped too and later, Silvan Dillier joined us. From then on, it was a tough race all day. I felt good. Unfortunately, the peloton didn’t give us much space. We were caught on the top of the last climb.”

The stage gave the neo pro a good feeling. “It was a long stage. The fact that I was part of the breakaway again, just like yesterday, shows I’ve made progress. This has made me stronger for the next season. I want to advance even more.”

The stage ended in a sprint with a decimated peloton. “Dylan was in the second peloton after the final climb”, sports director Grischa Nierman explained. “We couldn’t close the gap in the final kilometres. Today, we weren’t strong enough to rectify the situation, like we did last year. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow: the last sprint of the year.”
