Eenkhoorn shows himself during escape in Ruta del Sol

Pascal Eenkhoorn has showed himself during his first race for Team LottoNL-Jumbo in the Ruta del Sol. The 21-year-old Dutchman was part of the escape of the day and was only caught by the peloton on the last climb. Steven Kruijswijk was the first rider of Team LottoNL-Jumbo to cross the finish line. He came in eleventh.

Sports director Frans Maassen thought Eenkoorn did well. "He crashed yesterday, but today he showed real character. He deserved to be part of that escape. We knew in advance that it was not an ideal arrival for him. The fact that he could not could compete to the end did not make his performance any less valuable."

Kruijswijk also showed himself in the final. The riders in the group of favourites competed against each other in the last few hundred metres, so that the heavily thinned peloton finally crossed the finish line in groups.

“Steven was there for a long time. Eventually, he finishes just outside the top ten. He is in good shape. This actually applies to the entire team", concludes Maassen.
