Fourth place and combativity award in Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic

Lars Boom finished fourth in the Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 31-year-old rider sprinted to the fourth place during a tough race. Amund Grondahl Jansen and Victor Campenaerts were in front for a long time, but they ultimately got caught by the peloton. Nevertheless, Grondahl Jansen took the combativity award.

The race began on a high pace. Initially, Lars Boom represented Team LottoNL-Jumbo in a big leading group. Then, Amund Grondahl Jansen attacked several times. “I wanted to be in the breakaway”, he explained afterwards. “Eventually, I attacked with Victor.”

The two riders were in front for a long time. “But it was a difficult race in bad weather. We paid the price for it in the final. In the end, I missed some power so I couldn’t compete for the victory. Despite this, we showed ourselves and it was a good try.”

Afterwards, Lars Boom was able to position himself in the inevitable bunch sprint. “After a tough race, Jos van Emden tried to attack. Therefore, I waited for the sprint”, he declared after the race. “I couldn’t achieve a place on the podium. That is a pity, but this gives confidence for the upcoming races.”
