Dylan Groenewegen has sprinted to a hattrick in the Tour of Norway. Groenewegen showed that he’s by far the fastest in the race and in the fourth stage he sprinted to his third stage victory this week. Due to his win, he extends his lead in the overall classification. His victory tally for this season is now at eight wins and the fifteenth for Team LottoNL-Jumbo.

The final of the 218 kilometre long stage to Brumunddal was very chaotic. Amund Jansen, one of the regular lead out men for Groenewegen, almost crashed and the lead out was thoroughly disrupted. Nevertheless, Team LottoNL-Jumbo controlled the stage with panache, after which Jansen and Timo Roosen initiated the sprint.

“The final was crazy and chaotic”, a relieved Groenewegen said. “It went fast. I lost the wheel of my lead out men in the final because I was almost brought down. Amund almost crashed as well, but he was still able to return to the front and do an impressive job. When Boasson Hagen wanted to surprise me with an attack, I started my sprint. I’m glad that I was able to finish it off. The team once again did a great job and I can’t thank my team mates enough for that.”

Tomorrow, Groenewegen will start as the leader in the last stage to Lillehammer. Nevertheless, the resident of Amsterdam doesn’t think about the overall classification yet. “Tomorrow will be a tough stage, but I will give everything and do my best. I’m very happy with my three stage wins. The week has been a great success. Perhaps, the stage is more suitable for Amund. He is very, very strong. Just look at today. He almost crashed, he came back and was still able to help me. Then you’re better than just good.”
