Jansen second in Gooikse Pijl after a long day in the breakaway

Amund Grøndahl Jansen has finished second in the Gooikse Pijl. The 24-year-old Norwegian was part of a leading group. In the pouring rain, Jansen and his breakaway companions rode in the lead for over one hundred and thirty kilometres and ultimately sprinted for the win.

Jansen escaped from the leading group in the final kilometre. He seemed on his way to victory, but was beaten on the line by Jordi Meeus. Dylan Groenewegen finished seventh.

“I really did not expect this after my heavy crash in the Eurometropole Tour yesterday”, Jansen said. “This morning, I was still suffering from the crash and I was uncertain about how it would go. However, I was really motivated to show something. My second part of the season was far from good so far, due to circumstances, so I decided to give it a try and just race. In the final kilometre I thought that I was going to win, but the guy from SEG Racing came from behind. That is a pity, because I really wanted to win here.”
