No top result for Team LottoNL-Jumbo in Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal

De Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal didn’t go as hoped for Team LottoNL-Jumbo. After a tough race, Paul Martens was Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s best classified rider. The 33-year-old German rider finished 38th at one minute and 40 seconds of winner Diego Ulissi.

“We didn’t travel to Canada for these results”, Martens admitted. “We had two difficult races in Canada. Many teams came with world class riders. Normally, I’m the one who supports the leader, but this time I was the best classified rider. If I really want to finish in front, everything must be right. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.”

Furthermore, it was a difficult race for Team LottoNL-Jumbo in which to undertake something. “The race was hard from the beginning. You can’t achieve a lot with an early attack. Moreover, the leading group was already caught before the telecast started. Only the strongest riders survived in the end. So it was a fair race. It’s a pity I was just not good enough.”
