Satisfying comeback Gesink in Australia

Today’s Peoples Choice Criterium in Adelaide Australia was the starting signal for the cycling season of Team LottoNL-Jumbo. The criterion, a warm-up for the Tour Down Under which starts coming Tuesday, counted 22 laps and was won by Peter Sagan. For Team LottoNL-Jumbo, Enrico Battaglin took eighth place.

For Robert Gesink it was his first time in six months that he participated in a competition. During the Tour de France of last year, the Dutchman sustained a spinal fracture which took him a long time to recover from. The criterium was a good way for Gesink to race in a peloton again.

"It felt good to have finally started a new season again", Gesink said. "The criterium was short and fast and that always hurts, but everything felt completely fine. Tomorrow we can take it easy and then we will really start racing on Tuesday. I’m looking forward to it."
