Second win of the season for Groenewegen in Portugal

Dylan Groenewegen has taken his second win of the season. In the first stage of the Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta, the 24-year-old Dutchman was the first to cross the finish line after a long sprint. It meant the third victory of Team LottoNL-Jumbo this season.

For Groenewegen it’s his 21st victory in the yellow-black of Team LottoNL-Jumbo, a victory that was preceded by a long and heavy sprint. In the end, it was Timo Roosen who launched Groenewegen.

"The shape feels really good", Groenewegen said afterwards. "The leadout was already strong in Dubai and today they did a great job again. The timing was right and I finished it off in a long sprint."

"Dylan had a good winter, worked hard and is still young. That’s how we like it", a cheerful Merijn Zeeman said. The sports director praised the entire team for their hard work, allowing Groenewegen to sprint full throttle. "Sepp Kuss controlled the peloton all day. When the breakaway was caught, some riders tried to jump away, but Bert-Jan Lindeman, Bram Tankink and Paul Martens made an effort to prevent this. That's why Dylan was ready for the final and he finished it off strongly."
