Team Jumbo-Visma has to settle with top ten in Dwars door Vlaanderen

Danny van Poppel has finished in seventh place in the semi-classic Dwars door Vlaanderen. The fast Team Jumbo-Visma rider won the peloton sprint in Waregem at twenty seconds from a strong leading group that sprinted for the victory.

Team Jumbo-Visma was well-positioned the entire race, but was unable to compete at the decisive moments with riders like later winner Mathieu van der Poel, Tiesj Benoot and Bob Jungels. Amund Jansen launched a counterattack after the Cote de Trieu, but the Norwegian didn’t get much support.

Sports director Grischa Niermann was not unhappy nevertheless. “We didn’t ride our best race, but it was not bad either. The team was constantly in a good position, but without Wout van Aert we were unable to go along with Van der Poel and later Benoot and Jungels at the decisive moments. The fact that Danny won the peloton sprint is a good sign. The team is very strong in general and we are ready for the Ronde van Vlaanderen.”

Timo Roosen made his comeback today after his bad crash in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. “When you’ve been out for weeks, it’s hard to make your return in this time of the year. He lacks race rythm and hardness. But Timo has done well and finished the race”, Niermann concluded.
