Team Jumbo-Visma rushes to second place in Hammer Limburg

Team Jumbo-Visma has become second in the Hammer Series Limburg. In the Hammer Chase, the yellow and black riders could overtake Bora-Hansgrohe, who had started before them, and managed to stay ahead of the team after an exciting denouement. Deceunick-QuickStep took the final win of the Dutch edition.

With the second place and the win in the Hammer Series Stavanger two weeks ago, Team Jumbo-Visma is still on top of the leaderboard of the Hammer Series. In October, the final will be held in Hongkong.

“It was exciting”, a satisfied Nico Verhoeven concluded. The sports director from Team Jumbo-Visma saw his team playing a cat and mouse game with Bora-Hansgrohe. “In the end, we slowed down to stay ahead of them in the sprint. We stayed on the right side of the road, so they had to ride in the wind to pass us. That’s why Team Sunweb could come back. In the end everything fell into place. We fended off Bora, while Sunweb stayed fourth. That’s beneficial for the classification after two series.”

According to Koen Bouwman, it was an exciting fight. “We did a good job and showed character. In the final kilometres, we didn’t go full gas, but made a tactic decision. It’s nice that we became second here.”
