Team Jumbo-Visma signs thirteen talents for a new development team

At the Jumbo headquarters in Veghel, thirteen talented cyclists signed their contracts with the development team of Team Jumbo-Visma.

Development Team Jumbo-Visma, part of Team Jumbo-Visma Academy, will consist of thirteen riders under 20 who come from both the Netherlands and abroad.

The youthful group consists of cyclists who in some cases combine the road with cyclocross, track or mountainbiking. Rick Pluimers, Axel van der Tuuk, Lars Boven, Owen Geleijn, Olav Kooij, Hidde van Veenendaal, Mick van Dijke, Tim van Dijke and Gijs Leemreize are the Dutch guys in the team. Archie Ryan (Ireland) and Finn Fisher-Black (New Zealand) form the foreign input with Michel Hessmann and Maurice Ballerstedt (both Germany).

Robert Wagner becomes one of the sports directors. The German is an old acquaintance of Team Jumbo-Visma. Until this season he was active as a rider with the Dutch professional team. The identity of the second sports director of Development Team Jumbo-Visma, alongside Wagner, will be announced soon.

Robbert de Groot becomes head of the development team. De Groot is no stranger to cycling, he previously worked for the Rabobank cycling team, before being active at AZ and FC Groningen, among others.

“We generally try to raise Dutch cycling to a higher level. Nothing is more beautiful than the development of young riders who improve themselves in such a way that they start acting at a professional level. The challenge is to achieve this for the long term. The development team must be the stepping stone to the pros for young, talented riders. ”

Director Richard Plugge sees a wish come true with the arrival of his own development team. “I am very proud that, after the disappearance of the Rabobank Development Team, we have been able to set up a development team with the help of Jumbo and Visma. Together with, among other things, a school plan, we want to create growth for Dutch cycling.”
