Team LottoNL-Jumbo again active in Vuelta stage 7

Floris De Tier showed his good legs again in the seventh stage of the Vuelta a España. After the breakaway he rode in was caught, George Bennett and Steven Kruijswijk attacked. When the fireworks faded, they finished in the group with the other GC contenders.

Sepp Kuss was the first rider of Team LottoNL-Jumbo who crossed the finish line with a 10th place. Kruijswijk and Bennett still sit ninth and 11th in the general classification.

“The peloton didn’t give us much space”, De Tier said. “That’s a pity because my legs were good.” Before the stage, the Belgian rider thought it was an opportunity for the breakaway. “But I don’t stop believing. Now, it’s all eyes on Sunday. That will be a hard stage, so I have to help our leaders as well as possible.”

According to Kruijswijk, it was an easy stage until the final. “It was important to be in front over there. We were there with three, while Floris was in the breakaway. We have a very strong team for this terrain. Besides that, don’t forget the guys who help us on the flat roads. Because of them, we’re saving a lot of energy. The teamwork is great", he praised his teammates. “We have to finish safely without time losses and win time when possible. Sunday’s stage is a good opportunity. When the legs are good, we can try something again.”
