Team LottoNL-Jumbo falls short in Il Lombardia

No top result for Team LottoNL-Jumbo in Il Lombardia. Steven Kruijswijk finished 28th, Primoz Roglic came in 40th. Vincenzo Nibali won the race with a solo attack.

With seventy kilometers to go, Roglic attacked. A few riders followed him, but the peloton caught him on the steep Muro di Sormano. On the penultimate climb, it was up to the favourites. Halfway, Kruijswijk couldn’t follow the small bunch.

Sports Director Addy Engels: “We were hoping for a good result. Unfortunately, that wasn’t for today. In this respect, I’m disappointed. However, the riders did a good job. It was a smart move of Primoz to attack from the peloton on the Colma di Sormano, because he survived the climb. I think he didn’t have the legs to do more. In this way, Steven wasn’t alone in the peloton, so it was well anticipated by Primoz. It exploded on the Civiglio. Steven fought and did what he could. That wasn’t good enough for a prize. The final doesn’t lie. So this was it today.”
