Tjallingii wins GP Beeckman-De Caluwé Ninove

Maarten Tjallingii won the GP Beeckman-De Caluwé Ninove. He escaped with Wouter Mol (Join’s – De Rijke) and Peter Koning (Drapac) at 40 kilometres out and beat them for the victory. Team-mate Moreno Hofland finished fourth.

“It went well,” the Dutchman said after the race. “It was quite a tough race with plenty of attempts to escape. Half of the peloton was exhausted in the final so I was able to break away with Wouter Mol and Peter Koning. “It didn’t slow down a single moment. That was in my advantage. I like to race on the razor’s edge.”

Convincing

Tjallingii was convincing in the final of the race. “I didn’t know exactly how fast the others were so I decided to test them with three kilometres to go,” he said.

“Afterwards, I was confident enough to wait for the sprint and I won it by one metre. For me this means that I recovered from the Giro d’Italia quite well and that I still have the form I needed to have to ride the Tour de France. I’m happy with that.”

“It’s nice for Maarten that he was able to win this race,” Sports Director Erik Dekker said. “He’s always working hard for the team, he deserved this win. It was a fair race. It was very hard to predict, and that’s in Maarten’s advantage. He was the most active rider of the peloton today.”
