Van Poppel sees sprint chances vanish in Arctic Race

Van Poppel sees sprint chances vanish in Arctic Race

Danny van Poppel hasn’t been able to sprint in the second stage of the Arctic Race of Norway. The rider of Team Jumbo-Visma ended up next to the road and as a result, he saw his chances vanish.

“We lost each other a little in the last three kilometers”, Amund Jansen said. “It was quite an easy stage, in which a lot happened in the final. There was a lot of headwind. Luckily, we all stayed on the bike, but unfortunately, I didn’t manage to sprint anymore.”

Sports director Sierk Jan de Haan concurred with Jansen’s story. “It was an easy stage. Several more teams managed to get themselves in the mix in the battle for the stage victory. None of the teams where able to take control and a lot of riders tried to earn their positions in the front. That does not always go smooth. Danny ended up next to the road. Normally, it was the last sprint chance, so this is a pity. But that is also part of cycling.”
