Danny van Poppel has sprinted to the fourth place in the seventeenth stage of the Giro d’Italia. Enrico Battaglin put Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s sprinter perfectly in position for the sprint after the rest of the team had taken control of the stage in the final. Van Poppel wanted to surprise the other sprinters by starting early, but was unable to beat Elia Viviani. “The idea was to start my sprint earlier than Elia”, Van Poppel said.
