Van Poppel third in Famenne Ardenne Classic

Danny van Poppel has finished third in the second edition of the Famenne Ardenne Classic. The 25-year-old sprinter of Team LottoNL-Jumbo won the bunch sprint in Marche-en-Famenne. He came up a little bit short to catch the two leaders.

“A third place is not bad, but I really would have liked to win”,  Van Poppel said. “I rode a strong sprint, but the two leaders just stayed ahead of me. It is a pity, but that is cycling. It was a tough race and the team tried to control the race in the best possible way. That was very difficult, as we were one of only two WorldTour teams in the race. The team has done its best so we should be happy with this result. The form is good, the morale is good, so I am looking forward to what is yet to come.”
