Thomas Gloag’s time at Team Visma Lease a Bike
After more than three years at Team Visma | Lease a Bike, it’s time to say goodbye to Thomas Gloag, who will continue his career at Q36.5 Pro Cycling in 2026. Therefore, it’s only fitting to look back at the time Thomas spent with our team. A time that both resulted in his first professional win, but also a huge challenge to get back after an accident with a car.
2022
Thomas joined Team Visma | Lease a Bike on 1st October 2022, following three very impressive years at U23 level. Arriving at the team with a fresh stage win from the Tour de l’Avenir in his pocket, the Brit went straight to work with an impressive campaign in the Italian autumn classics. Here, Thomas took 17th in Giro dell’Emilia and 12th in both Tre Valli Varesine and Gran Piemonte, competing against names like Tadej Pogačar and Alejandro Valverde. It was the perfect way to head into his first winter as a WorldTour rider.
2023
If 2022 was promising, Thomas’ start to 2023 was impressive. Right away, he took 6th overall in the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana while winning the white jersey, and later finished 7th on Jebel Jais in the UAE Tour and 10th on Thyon 2000 - a brutal Swiss climb in the Tour de Romandie. In May, he made his Grand Tour debut in the Giro d’Italia, and ended up celebrating the overall victory of Primoz Roglic along with the rest of the squad. In August, however, things took a turn for the worse. Thomas was hit by a car while training in Spain, and his right knee was hurt badly, meaning the next 12 months were spent completely without racing.
2024
A full year later, Thomas fought his way back into the sport he loves in the most incredible way. In his comeback race, the Czech Tour, he took a memorable and emotional solo victory on the queen stage, underlining just how far he had come since the day disaster struck. He ended the year with just ten race days, but crucially, he was back on track.
2025
2025 would prove to be Thomas’ first full season with the team, and he made the most of it by starting as early as possible. In the Australian January heat, he took 8th overall at the Tour Down Under, before completing several stage races throughout the spring, rebuilding his base. In early autumn, the results began to arrive as well, with 2nd behind Remco Evenepoel on the queen stage of the Tour of Britain and 3rd overall at Okolo Slovenska. The Londoner ended his season in China at the Tour of Guangxi in what turned out to be his final race in black and yellow. From 2026, Thomas will move on to his next chapter. We wish him the very best of luck.
