Fan Peloton talk: 'I closely align with the team’s values'

In our column ‘Fan Peloton talk’, we put members of the Fan Peloton in the spotlight. Who are they, why do they feel connected to Team Visma | Lease a Bike and who is their favourite rider? In this episode, we have a chat with Thierry Jolin.

Name: Thierry Jolin
Age: 21 jaar
Residence: Gatineau (Canada)

What made you join Team Visma | Lease a Bike's Fan Peloton?
"I have been following cycling since I was young, but during last year’s spring classics I became a huge fan of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. I recently watched the Tour documentaries from 2022, 2023, and 2024, and I was fascinated by how the riders overcame setbacks and always came back stronger. It is incredibly inspiring to see how they give their all every day, both on and off the bike. I am especially drawn to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere around the team bus and during the races. As other Fan Peloton members have said, it truly feels like one big family."

What do you like most about being a member?
"I love having access to exclusive sneak previews and live race updates through the WhatsApp group. It’s really a lifesaver on the rare occasions when I can’t watch a race live. In addition, it’s incredibly valuable to be able to exchange thoughts with others who support the same team and are part of this big family. Participating in the monthly Fan Peloton lottery is also a fun bonus, although I haven’t been one of the lucky winners yet."

In what way do you feel involved with the team?
"I appreciate that the monthly newsletter keeps us informed about the team’s major plans for upcoming races. It helps me stay connected, even if I miss an update. The webshop is also a highlight, as it’s fantastic to have access to the same gear that the pros use during training and races. I also really enjoy reading the race reports, which review everything in detail. They help me better understand the team’s tactical approach."

Have you ever visited an event?
"Since I live on the other side of the ocean, I haven’t yet had the chance to attend an event. Nonetheless, it would be a dream to visit the headquarters someday, for example during the sale days."

Why are you a fan of the team?
"The team feels like an international family, and that is something I strongly identify with. It shares values such as perseverance and dedication, which I admire and strive for myself. I also have great confidence in the team’s strategy and development philosophy. Moments like Simon Yates’ victory in the Giro demonstrate how essential teammates and domestiques are: their role is often underestimated in daily life, but seeing the way this team works together toward a single goal is truly impressive."

Who is your favourite cyclist on the team?
"That's Jonas Vingegaard. I admire his conduct in the peloton and the way he remains so humble despite his impressive achievements. As a fellow introvert, I also see myself in him. When I received my The Swarm shirt, I was thrilled to see that he was the one carrying my name during the 2025 Tour de France. Being assigned to him out of the eight possible riders was fantastic, and the personal message made it even more special."

Suppose you could ask one of the riders a question. What would you want to know?
"How do you maintain focus and calm during the chaos of a mountain stage in a Grand Tour, when the pressure from the media, your country, the team, and your teammates rests on your shoulders?"

What is your connection to cycling?
"My father introduced me to cycling, and it has been my favorite sport ever since. I train at least four times a week on my indoor trainer. Despite the time difference, I get up early to watch as many races live as possible."

What would make membership even better for you?
"I would love to see more online activities for fans outside Europe. The Rouvy rides and virtual Q&A sessions are fantastic because they help bridge the geographical distance. Additionally, it would be great to receive a small birthday gesture, such as a digital signature or a special message."
