Krol extends contract with Team Jumbo-Visma until 2022

Thomas Krol has penned down a new contract with Team Jumbo-Visma that will keep him tied to the team until at least the Winter Olympics of Beijing 2022.

Krol's existing deal was due to expire at the end of this season, but the 27-year-old speed skater has now committed his future to Jac Orie's side. Last year he had a great first season at Team Jumbo-Visma.

On February 10th, Krol won his career first world title with an impressive track record in the men's 1500-meter race in Inzell (Germany). He also seized his first World Cup gold in the men's 1500-meter race at Thialf, Heerenveen on December 15th of 2018.

This season, Krol has already shown great form. At the first three World Cups, he won five gold medals (2x 1,000 meters, 2x Team Sprint and 1x 1,500 meters) and a bronze medal (1,500 meters).

"I am very happy to stay with Team Jumbo-Visma for the next couple of years", Krol said about his contract extension. "Since I have been here, I have improved a lot. At every single tournament I have a real chance of winning a gold medal. Looking to the future, I don't see a better outfit in this sport than this one. I am confident that I can compete for a medal at the next Olympics."

"Last season I showed the world that I am a world-class speed skater. This season is going really well as well. By winning six World Cup medals I have shown that last year's world title was not a lucky shot. I might even be better than I have ever been. I hope I can continue this form in the coming races."

Orie

Coach Orie is pleased with the fact that the cooperation with Krol will be extended. "Thomas is a world-class speed skater who has developed strongly in recent years. If you look at his results during the first World Cups of the season, he seems to be on track to continue in that direction. I am convinced there's still a lot of potential."

After Kjeld Nuis (2023) and Patrick Roest (2022), Krol is already the third speed skater of Team Jumbo-Visma, who has signed a new long-term deal.
