Team Jumbo-Visma ready for wet cobblestones and strong wind

Gent-Wevelgem is the first of two cobbled classics this month. Paris-Roubaix has been canceled due to the coronavirus. Wout van Aert is the outspoken leader of the Dutch team. Mike Teunissen, Amund Jansen and Timo Roosen are, among others, also part of the selection.

The riders have to conquer various climbs along the way, including the Kemmelberg. In addition, the course takes them over three unpaved roads, called plugstreets. After 238 kilometres, the riders will finish in Wevelgem. Rain and strong winds are expected. This will affect the race.

Van Aert: “This road season I will start in two more races. I’ll ride both with the ambition to win. Gent-Wevelgem is not only a preparation for the Tour of Flanders for me. I want to participate in the final there.”

"Hopefully I can continue that good form for a few more weeks."

Wout van Aert

This season, the Flemish rider managed to score in Milan-Sanremo, Strade Bianche and the Tour de France. In addition, he took silver twice at the World Championships in Imola. “My condition has been very good for a long time now. In Imola, I felt that I came out of the Tour de France well. I also felt fine during training. Hopefully I can continue that good form for a few more weeks. My season has already been successful in principle. Additional top performances are a bonus. Still, I don’t want to miss an opportunity. I am really focused on the coming period.”
