Vos to start road season at Trofeo Alfredo Binda

Team Jumbo-Visma Women will compete in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda in Italy this weekend. For Marianne Vos, the Italian one-day race is a special one. On Sunday, the 35-year-old rider will be racing on the road for the first time in 2023.

"The Trofeo Alfredo Binda is a race that I love to ride", Vos says. "The first race of the season always brings a few extra nerves. I'm looking forward to starting the race with the team."

The Italian one-day race, held in the province of Varese, has been on the calendar since 1974. The riders will encounter eleven climbs over 139 kilometres. The course includes four local laps with two short climbs.

"The first race of the season always brings a few extra nerves"

Marianne Vos

Due to physical issues, Vos had to end her cyclo-cross season early last winter. The former world champion underwent treatment for pelvic artery constriction in the middle of February. "The treatment went well, and, as hoped, I was able to get back on my bike and resume training ten days later. The first road race is just around the corner", Vos says from Tenerife, where she is training.

"After the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, I will continue my racing schedule in Belgium, where I will race the Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Ronde van Vlaanderen", Vos says. "Of course, there are also some nice races later in the year, but the focus is mainly on the spring races at the moment. I am looking forward to some exciting races."

Vos will be joined by Riejanne Markus, Coryn Labecki, Karlijn Swinkels, Amber Kraak and Kim Cadzow as part of Team Jumbo-Visma's six-strong women's squad for the Italian semi-classic.
