Boven wins general classification Flanders Tomorrow Tour

Boven wins general classification Flanders Tomorrow Tour

Lars Boven has won the Flanders Tomorrow Tour. The rider of the Jumbo-Visma Development Team maintained his leading position throughout the final stage of the Belgian stage race.

Boven took the lead after winning yesterday’s second stage. The 21-year-old Dutchman rode a good time trial in the yellow leader’s jersey this morning. Boven was third behind teammate Tim van Dijke, who came in second. As a result, the third-year U23 rider extended his lead in the standings. The outcome of the final stage, which took place in the afternoon, did not change the final classification, resulting in Boven’s second win of the season. It meant his team’s fifth victory of the year. Boven succeeds Mick van Dijke as the Flanders Tomorrow Tour’s general classification winner.

In addition to the yellow jersey, Boven also won the points classification. Jesse Kramer seized the rushes classification and took home the red jersey. The Jumbo-Visma Development Team also took first place in the team classification.

"Our guys had complete control of the race, also in the final."

Following his successful time trial, Boven went into the final stage with confidence. “It was to be expected that the final stage would end in a bunch sprint. Our guys had complete control of the race, also in the final. That way, I could ride to the overall victory fairly easily. That was perfect and I am very grateful to my teammates for that. In recent months I achieved a very high level, but not yet a good result. I feel happy about this victory.”

Boven’s accomplishments support the young rider’s upward trend, according to sports director Sierk Jan de Haan. “Lars is going through a strong period. He handled this race very well, but he also took steps physically. This beautiful result is the pay-off for that. In addition, the team was incredibly powerful. Everyone played a part in this success. Congratulations to our boys.”
