Kooij takes stage win and wins GC Orlen Nations Grand Prix

Olav Kooij has won the second and final stage of the Orlen Nations Grand Prix. The rider of the Jumbo-Visma Development Team raced for the Dutch U23 team this weekend. He also won the final classification of the Polish stage race.

Yesterday, the Dutch selection also won the opening team time trial. The stage victory and the final classification are respectively the fifth and sixth victory for Kooij this cycling season.

The 18-year-old Kooij, who will become a professional at Team Jumbo-Visma in mid-2021, looked back on a stage that was controlled by his Dutch teammates. “A leading group got a gap, after which we controlled the race. In the final there were some attacks by the opponents, but we managed to counter them. Fortunately, I was able to take the win in the sprint. It was good to see that we raced very well as a team. The fact that I also win the general classification makes this weekend more than successful.”
