Solid sprint Van Dijke on ascending finish Tour of Norway

Solid sprint Van Dijke on ascending finish Tour of Norway

Mick van Dijke has finished in the top ten again in the second stage of the Tour of Norway. The rider of Team Jumbo-Visma positioned himself well in the ascending final kilometre and sprinted to fourth place. Belgian rider Thibau Nys took the win in Stavanger. Attila Valter finished ninth and is now fourth in the overall standings.

After the harsh weather conditions of the shortened first stage, the sun came out for the second stage. Eight riders created a gap on the first climb, after which the teams with GC riders, including Team Jumbo-Visma, took control.

Sports director Maarten Wynants of Team Jumbo-Visma: "Because of the long climb at the beginning of the stage, the race was hard for a long time. Gijs Leemreize tried to join a breakaway but didn't manage. We then focused on the challenging final ascent."

On that final descent, Mick van Dijke was again involved in the battle for the places of honour. "My brother Tim van Dijke wanted to sprint, but he got caught, so I went for it. I'm happy to compete for prizes again after a long injury, but I still lack the strength to fight for the win."

"A fourth place for Mick is good", said Wynants. "He was in the winning wheel and did almost everything right. Attila was also in a good position and retained a good place in the general classification. We can go for another sprint in the final stage tomorrow with Tim or Mick."
