Strong team performance earns Van Agt fifth place in Festival Elsy Jacobs

Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women made a strong impression on the first day of Festival Elsy Jacobs in Garnich. The Dutch team performed well in the Luxembourg hilly landscape and saw Eva van Agt take fifth place.

In the race named after the first female world champion on the road, Team Visma | Lease a Bike showed itself as a strong collective. The team was at the front all day and reacted alertly to attacks from the peloton. After Margaux Vigié was caught in the final, Van Agt took her chance. The Dutchwoman created a small gap and was joined by four riders.

The quintet stayed just ahead of the chasing group and could sprint for victory. Van Agt gave everything, but missed out on a podium spot. “The result may be a little disappointing, but I am satisfied with how we rode as a team,” Van Agt said. "We kept control all day and tried to make the race tough. On the last climb I wanted to ride all-out to the top. Unfortunately, I had a headwind and was just not strong enough to get away alone."

"I've never been in this situation before, so it was super instructive."

In the battle for victory, Van Agt had to deal with her four fellow escapees. "On paper they were all faster than me, so I was looking for another moment to attack. At 900 meters it might have been possible, but I hesitated too long. I kind of regret that. I've never been in this situation before, so it was super instructive. Of course I had hoped for a podium spot, but in the end I have to settle for place five."

Tomorrow the second one-day race awaits in Luxembourg. "In terms of altimeters, this race will be a little less selective. I consider it likely that there will be a sprint."
