Team Jumbo-Visma Women not in contention for podium in second stage Tour de Romandie Féminin

The riders of Team Jumbo-Visma Women have not been able to fight for a podium place in the second stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin. The yellow-black squad was well represented with four riders on the final climb, but unfortunately, could not keep up with the pace. Dutch rider Demi Vollering crossed the line first at the top of the Torgon.

The second stage of the Swiss race took the riders from Romont to Torgon with two first-category climbs. It took a long time for a breakaway to form. Before the final climb, three riders, including Amber Kraak, built up a gap of one minute. However, the peloton picked up the pace considerably on the flanks of the Torgon and caught the leaders quickly. Of the elite group, 26-year-old Vollering proved to have the best legs.

Kraak: "I tried to attack today. Unfortunately, the headwind cost me a lot of energy, and I felt empty. Tomorrow, I will try to attack again and make it a good day with the other riders.”

"The plan today was to anticipate the early breakaway”, race director Lieselot Decroix said. "Rosita (Reijnhout) and Eva (Van Agt) were very active in the first hour of the race. Unfortunately, none of the breakaways proved effective. We tried to stick to our plan as best we could. In the final, we had a lot of riders in the breakaway, but unfortunately, we came up short on the tough final climb.”

Tomorrow is the third and final stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin. With four categorised climbs, there are still plenty of opportunities for Team Jumbo-Visma.
