Team Visma | Lease a Bike comes up short in first stage Tour of Britain Women

Team Visma | Lease a Bike was unable to play a significant role in the first stage of the Tour of Britain Women. On the hilly terrain the Dutch formation was unable to contend for the stage win. Kimberley Le Court proved to be the strongest in Redcar.

The British four-day event kicked off with a short ride of over eighty kilometers. On Lingburn's Bank, the second and final climb of the day, Le Court went on the attack and the Mauritian only had Kristen Faulkner with her. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders fought for what they were worth, but were unable to stay in front of the peloton.

Nienke Veenhoven won the sprint of the second group at just under two minutes. “It's a shame that we didn't have anyone in the first chasing group,” sports director Robby Cobbaert said. "We had thought that Imogen would be able to get along in front. Unfortunately, she didn't have her best day. That can happen."

"We have to stay positive and take advantage of every day to get a nice result."

According to Cobbaert, there are still plenty of opportunities to come. "We know that a top ten ranking in the general classification will be very difficult, but we have to stay positive and take advantage of every day to get a nice result. Tomorrow awaits an uphill finish after a tough final of about 35 kilometers. It would be nice if Imogen regains her good legs tomorrow."
