Veenhoven fourth after strong team effort in echelon stage of the Simac Ladies Tour

Veenhoven fourth after strong team effort in echelon stage of the Simac Ladies Tour

Nienke Veenhoven finished fourth after a spectacular echelon stage. The young Dutch rider found herself in the right echelon alongside Margaux Vigié and Lieke Nooijen, before eventually sprinting to fourth place. Thanks to their strong ride, the three riders made a solid move up in the general classification, while Lorena Wiebes once again proved to be the fastest.

In the third stage of the Dutch stage race, the wind immediately played a decisive role. The black-and-yellow squad was alert from the start and, with Vigié, Nooijen and Veenhoven, managed to stay in the front echelon of eighteen riders.

The gap of the leading group continued to grow, leaving the riders to battle it out for the stage win in the streets of Zeewolde. In the final kilometers, Vigié and Nooijen worked in support of Veenhoven, who sprinted to fourth place.

"Tomorrow is going to be really nice"

Nienke Veenhoven

“At first I missed the echelon, but luckily I was able to get back on,” Veenhoven reflected afterwards. “In the finale we might have taken a bit more control in the sprint, but it was such a hectic and tough day that I wasn’t really thinking about it in the moment.”

Tomorrow, the fourth stage of the Simac Ladies Tour will take place around Alkmaar. For the 21-year-old rider from Oostzaan, it will be a special day. “Tomorrow is going to be really nice, because it’s basically a home race for me. I’m really looking forward to it.”
