Yet another win for Vingegaard in O Gran Camino

Yet another win for Vingegaard in O Gran Camino

Jonas Vingegaard has won a stage on the O Gran Camino for the second consecutive day. After being well-positioned for the last kilometre by his Team Jumbo-Visma teammates, including last man Attila Valter, the yellow jersey holder crossed the finish line solo on the challenging Alto do Castelo. Vingegaard increased the lead on his rivals in the general classification.

Even before the start of the third stage, the organisers were forced to make some changes to the route. The Alto de Santa Marina had become impassable due to bad weather conditions. Additionally, the finish on the Alto do Castelo was moved down three kilometres.

The changes did not stop Rohan Dennis from attacking. The Australian, who had won the Tour Down Under earlier this season, was part of the breakaway and built up a two-minute lead. However, it was not enough to challenge for the stage win.

Dennis made another contribution in the run-up to the Alto de Castelo before Valter took the lead with three kilometres to go. Only Vingegaard, Ion Izagirre, and Ruben Guerreiro could keep up with the Hungarian champion as he rode uphill at a blistering pace.

"On the last climb, I told the guys I wanted to go for it"

On the steepest section, Vingegaard left everyone behind. He then crossed the line solo to give Team Jumbo-Visma its fourth victory of the season. "I am thrilled with this win. The guys worked hard for me, and luckily, I could finish it off", the stage winner said.

"On the last climb, I told the guys I wanted to go for it. Rohan did a great lead-out on the climb, and Attila pulled hard. Everything went perfectly.” Vingegaard now has a lead of more than 50 seconds over his nearest rival in the general classification. The Spanish stage race will conclude tomorrow with an 18-kilometre time trial.

"I am looking forward to tomorrow's stage as it seems to be a nice course. I hope I can keep the lead. It would be nice to see Attila on the podium. He is currently fourth and has a small gap to the number three. We will do our best to make that happen."
