Bennett and Kruijswijk finish in top ten in GC Volta a Catalunya

George Bennett and Steven Kruiswijk have finished the Volta a Catalunya in the top ten of the overall classification. In the tough final stage on the Montjuich circuit in Barcelona the two Team LottoNL-Jumbo GC riders ended sixth and eighth respectively. For Bennett it is his second top ten classification in a short period. He finished ninth in the Tirreno-Adriatico a few weeks ago.

The 154,8 kilometre long final stage was ridden on half dry and half wet roads. Because of this, the local circuit was very slippery and dangerous. All Team LottoNL-Jumbo riders came through unharmed. Bram Tankink rode an excellent stage and was part of the early breakaway.

“Today was very tough”, sports-director Grischa Niermann said. “It was a really tough stage because the roads were half dry, half wet. You had to be careful all the time. There were a couple of nasty crashes, but we stayed out of trouble. George and Stevie profited from that as their position in the overall standings show. I am glad they all finished without any injuries. With Bram in the break we did a good job today, especially when taking into account that we lost Robert and Bert-Jan early on in the week. Because of it we had to change our game plan a little.”
