Lindeman in the attack in Catalunya’s fifth stage

Bert-Jan Lindeman has attacked for a long time during the fifth stage of the Volta a Catalunya. The 29-year-old Dutchman was in the early breakaway of four, of whom Max Schachmann eventually won the stage.

Lindeman and his two companions were caught by the peloton that sprinted for second place. Steven Kruijswijk was attentive all day and kept his sixth place overall.

Sports director Frans Maassen had seen a strong Lindeman. “It was a strong breakaway. All four strong riders, but Schachmann was the strongest today. He is the deserved winner. Bert-Jan rode a great stage and he is not to blame. The other boys surrounded Steven well all day and kept him out of trouble in a quite dangerous final.”
