Mass sprint without problems for Team Jumbo-Visma in Vuelta a España

The third stage in the Vuelta a España has ended in a mass sprint. Team Jumbo-Visma did not play a significant role in this, although the team did assert itself in the final.

Three riders were part of the breakaway of the day. They were caught well before the finish, after which the peloton could prepare itself for the mass sprint in the streets of Alicante. Along the way Team Jumbo-Visma showed themselves at the front. The Dutch team, led by Tony Martin, took the initiative in the last twenty kilometres and the German ably guided his classification riders over the finish line.

"It was a relatively easy stage today," Martin said. “However, the final was tricky. The many roundabouts and obstacles created danger and stress. That is why we wanted to be in front with the team and we succeeded. I am happy that George, Steven and Primoz made it through the final. We have shown that we are a strong team."

Sports director Grischa Niermann looked back with satisfaction on the third stage. “We wanted to be at the front on certain points. We succeeded well, because we were in the lead of the peloton. It indicates how strong the boys are. Lennard and Steven still have some problems after the crash during the team time trial, but things are moving in the right direction.”
