Teunissen sprints to third place in Britain in the absence of Groenewegen

Mike Teunissen has taken third place in the second stage of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain. The Dutchman of Team Jumbo-Visma showed that he has good legs but Matteo Trentin was stronger at the finish. In the Scottish city of Kelso, Dylan Groenewegen lost his green leader jersey to the Italian.

On the last climb of the day, Groenewegen was not able to follow the peloton. Teunissem and Amund Jansen were there, however. Teunissen put himself in the sprint and third place was the result.

According to Teunissen, he could maybe have done better. “Amund was doing a great lead out. In the last technical kilometre, I didn’t have the space to move up to the front. At the finish I had a lot of speed. Because of that, I was able to jump to third place. We plan this race day to day. After two weeks of no racing, you never know how the form is.”
