Thank you, Tiesj

Thank you, Tiesj

After four years as a pillar in Team Visma | Lease a Bike, it’s time to say goodbye to Tiesj Benoot. The Belgian allrounder has been an integral part of everything from Omloop het Nieuwsblad to Tour de France and has enjoyed countless succeses with the team. In this gallery, you can relive some of Tiesj’s best moments.

2022

Already an experienced profile in the peloton, Tiesj joined our squad in 2022 and immediately played a key role in a big spring. Besides his own podium spots in Dwars door Vlaanderen and Amstel Gold Race, Tiesj helped Wout van Aert to triumphs in Omloop het Nieuwsblad and E3 Saxo Classic. Later in the season, he took part in our first Tour de France win, supporting Jonas Vingegaard all the way to Paris and completing ‘The Masterpiece’. He ended his first season with a third place in Clasica San Sebastian.

2023

2023 turned out to be a historic year for Team Visma | Lease a Bike, and Tiesj helped to get the season started in the best possible way. He secured himself a win in the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne ahead of Nathan Van Hooydonck, and later took third in Strade Bianche as well as seventh in Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. He was also a part of the squads that won Omloop het Nieuwsblad, E3 Saxo Classic, Dwars door Vlaanderen, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Criterium du Dauphiné, before adding yet another Tour de France victory to his domestique palmarès. Closing out a big season, Tiesj finished in the top 10 in Clasica San Sebastian, Bretagne Classic, Coppa Bernocchi and the world championships on the road.

2024

Before the crash of Wout van Aert in the spring of 2024, the team enjoyed wins in Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, and later the unlucky Dwars door Vlaanderen, with Tiesj being there every time. Another podium in Amstel Gold Race followed, before he turned his attention to yet another tilt at the Tour de France with Jonas. This year, the Dane fought to second place with Tiesj finishing his 8th Tour de France by his side. Top 10's in both Grand Prix de Quebec and Montreal, as well as being part of the breakaway in Il Lombardia marked the end of his third season as a Bee.

2025

In his last season with the team, Tiesj continued being Mr. Stability himself in the spring classics, even though the team once again had to endure tough moments in the first months of the season. Tiesj helped lifting the team back up after Dwars door Vlaanderen and put in a huge ride in the Ronde van Vlaanderen, where the Bees were at the front of the race right into the finale. After the spring, domestique duties awaited in the Tour, and another podium for Jonas followed. Tiesj therefore concludes his time at Team Visma | Lease a Bike without having finished a Tour de France without a teammate on the podium.

Apart from the results he achieved himself and helped his teammates achieve, Tiesj played an invaluable role in the culture on Team Visma | Lease a Bike. As sports director Marc Reef put it, Tiesj always puts himself in the first line of fire, while keeping his head cool and collected. We know his next team will enjoy these qualities too. We wish you all the best for the future, Tiesj!
