Vos sixth in Trofeo Alfredo Binda, Oudeman makes her comeback

Marianne Vos narrowly missed out on a podium place in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider crossed the line in sixth place after a gruelling 146-kilometre race.

In the 27th edition of the Italian one-day race, the riders faced ten climbs on a local circuit. Team Visma | Lease a Bike was on the ball and consistently had a rider in the front group. Maud Oudeman, riding her first race since fracturing her collarbone in Australia, attempted a solo breakaway in the finale but was unable to find a gap.

In the final lap, six riders managed to gain a small lead. Of those six, three remained and extended their lead to fifty seconds. Sarah Van Dam tried to close the gap from the chasing group, but failed in her mission. Karlijn Swinkels beat Anna van der Breggen in the sprint. In the group behind, Vos secured sixth place.

"It was a tough race, but above all I'm really happy to be back."

Maud Oudeman

"The start was good and we rode strongly as a team. Katharina was with me. Unfortunately, she crashed and couldn’t get back into the race afterwards. Sarah also rode hard today. For Maud, it was of course her first race since her crash and she did a good turn at the front in the final. In the final lap, I tried to attack myself, but unfortunately it didn’t work out."

Oudeman can look back on a successful return. "It was a tough race, but above all I’m really happy to be back. At first I struggled to help the ladies, but after that I got into my stride. I’ve come away from it feeling good."
