Goszczurny crowned Polish U23 time trial champion after strong performance
Patryk Goszczurny was crowned Polish U23 time trial champion on Thursday. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development rider was by far the fastest on the 40-kilometer course in Raszag.
On the hilly course, Goszczurny showcased his excellent time trial abilities. With a time of 49 minutes and 54 seconds, he finished more than a minute ahead of the riders who placed second and third. His time would also have been enough for second place in the elite category. For Goszczurny, the victory marked his first national title and earned him the right to wear the Polish champion’s jersey for the first time.
"After finishing second for three years in a row, it feels amazing to finally win. I’m very proud to be able to wear the national champion’s jersey for a year, and hopefully I can show it off a few times this season already," an elated Goszczurny said. "I was happy with the course. We had to ride the same lap three times, and it was constantly up and down. That suited me well."
"From start to finish, I was able to maintain my pace well."
The 19-year-old Pole said he was able to stick to the plan he had made with his coach beforehand. "I had never ridden such a long time trial before. My goal was to ride as consistently as possible. From start to finish, I was able to maintain my pace well, and that resulted in a great finishing time."
