Primoz Roglic has won the Giro d'Italia for the first time. At the end of a tough final week, Team Jumbo-Visma's 33-year-old Slovenian turned the 106th Tour of Italy on its head during the climbing time trial to Monte Lussari. Relive the conquest of the pink jersey in photos below!

Stages 16 - 19

After the second rest day, the peloton was immediately presented with a tough mountain stage. On the final climb of the day, Roglic had to let go rivals Geraint Thomas and Joao Almeida. With the help of a strong Sepp Kuss, the team leader managed to limit the damage. In the following days, Roglic proved to have the best papers together with Thomas. On the uphill arrivals in stages 18 and 19, the two favourites crossed the line together each time. The Slovenian thus started the decisive climb time trial on the penultimate day with a 26-second deficit.

Stage 20

The moment everyone was looking forward to: the individual climb time trial to Monte Lussari, a stone's throw from the Slovenian-Italian border. Roglic was faster than Thomas. With the final climb in sight, the classification difference between the two systematically got smaller. The pink dream seemed shattered when Roglic struggled with a mechanical issue. He had to get off the bike, but was able to continue his way to the finish. He crushed the opposition and got to wear the pink jersey, one day before the final stage in Rome.

Stage 21

The 106th Tour of Italy ended with a flat stage in Rome. After three intense weeks, Roglic crossed the finish line in the Italian capital together with his teammates. The 33-year-old Slovenian gives Team Jumbo-Visma a fifth overall victory in a grand tour.
