Dekker seventh in fifth stage Tour de Pologne

Dekker seventh in fifth stage Tour de Pologne

David Dekker has crossed the finish line in seventh place in the difficult fifth stage of the Tour de Pologne. In the hilly stage, the fast Dutchman of Team Jumbo-Visma managed to maintain himself in the reduced peloton with teammate Pascal Eenkhoorn.

On the uphill finish, Dekker was brought into position by Eenkhoorn. Due to the chaos in the final and a few crashes Dekker had to pull his brakes after which the seventh place was the highest achievable.

Dekker was surprised that he was still in a position to sprint. “Jos and Pascal did a perfect job keeping me in the front. We were well positioned, but Pascal and I had to brake twice to avoid crashes. In the end they started the sprint early and I didn’t have the explosiveness right away. I got up to full speed too late and then the seventh place was the best I could do. That’s a pity. However, I am surprised that I was still able to sprint for the win at all in a difficult stage like today’s.”
