Henderson fights her way to ninth place in Tour of Flanders

Anna Henderson has finished ninth in the Tour of Flanders. In a hectic final, the Jumbo-Visma rider battled hard but was ultimately dropped on the Paterberg. Lotte Kopecky won the race.

The pace was set on the Koppenberg. Henderson and Vos kept up the pace until they encountered some blockages. Both riders had to get off their bikes and ended up in the chasing group. At that point, the race was over for Vos. Henderson persisted in trying to catch Kopecky and Silvia Persico but was unsuccessful. After a great effort, the 24-year-old Englishwoman finished ninth despite letting the chasing group go on the Paterberg.

"It was a crazy race", said Henderson. "The decision was made on the slippery Koppenberg. It is alright to ride it on the bike, but the moment someone comes to a standstill, you're in trouble. I had to run and hopped back on my bike as soon as possible. We wanted to bring Marianne and Karlijn Swinkels in a good position for the final. After the Koppenberg, I stayed in position and hoped they would return. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way."

Vos also pointed to the Koppenberg as the turning point. "SD Worx opened the race on the Koppenberg, and riding in tenth place, we already had to take our foot off the pedal. That broke up the race. Unfortunately, I was not in the front. From then on, it was a very fast final, and Kopecky was strong. I will now recover from this and prepare for Paris-Roubaix."
