Lemmen secures fifth place at Muscat Classic
Bart Lemmen finished fifth at the Muscat Classic. The Dutch rider managed to break away from the chasing group in the challenging finale, earning himself a respectable result. Mauro Schmid proved to be the strongest on the day.
In the fourth edition of the Muscat Classic, where Team Visma | Lease a Bike fielded a mix of WorldTour and Development riders, attention quickly turned to the tough finale, which featured several steep climbs.
In the final twenty kilometers, the yellow-and-black squad stayed alert at the front of the peloton. On the closing climb, Lemmen, Sepp Kuss, and Tijmen Graat showcased their strengths by staying with the leading riders. Although the trio ultimately could not contest the victory, Lemmen secured an impressive fifth place.
"I can be satisfied with today"
“I’m happy with this result,” the Dutchman reflected. “Aldo Taillieu and Patryk Goszczurny did a fantastic job throughout the stage. In the finale, Sepp, Tijmen, and I were also well-positioned on the Aidoraak. I still had something left at the end, which allowed me to break away from the chasing group. I can be satisfied with today.”
This strong performance also gives the 30-year-old rider confidence for the rest of the week, as the Tour of Oman is next on the schedule. “It’s great to start the season on a strong note. I had a good winter, but of course, that doesn’t guarantee anything. Having it confirmed in the first race of the season gives a lot of confidence. Hopefully, we can carry this good form through as a team.”
