No major role for Team Jumbo-Visma in third stage of Tour de Suisse

No major role for Team Jumbo-Visma in third stage of Tour de Suisse

Team Jumbo-Visma has been unable to play a significant role in the third stage of the Tour de Suisse. Sam Oomen was the best ranked rider of Team Jumbo-Visma in twenty-first position. The Dutchman is now in twenty-second place overall, just over a minute behind stage winner and new leader Mathieu van der Poel.

On the last climb, the early breakaway was caught, after which the favourites pulled through. Due to the many accelerations the peloton split into several groups. A select group remained in the front with Oomen, Dumoulin and Tolhoek for Team Jumbo-Visma.

"We would have liked to sprint here with Mike, but that final climb was just a bit too difficult for him."

Frans Maassen

Sports director Frans Maassen looked back on the stage with mixed feelings. “We would have liked to sprint here with Mike, but that final climb was just a bit too difficult for him. It was a fair climb. On the other hand, Sam, Antwan and Tom did well and finished in the main group. It’s good to see that Tom is already able to do this.”

"I hoped that I could get in the mix in the first few days."

Mike Teunissen

Teunissen had hoped to be able to sprint. “I hoped that I could get in the mix in the first few days. Unfortunately, the stages did not turn out to be pure sprints. It’s not going too bad, but I’m just missing those few percents to really compete with the best. That’s a pity, but the Tour de Suisse is a race that is a good preparation for me for the Tour de France. Therefore my main goal for this week is to improve my shape.”
