Nooijen wins Chrono Féminin de Gatineau, Vigié joins her on the podium

Lieke Nooijen has claimed victory in the Chrono Féminin de Gatineau. The individual time trial marks the start of a three-day event on Canadian soil. Team-mates Margaux Vigié and Carlijn Achtereekte finished third and fourth respectively.

“I’m really happy to have won this time trial,” Nooijen said afterwards. “It was a tough course over rolling roads, and the wind also played an important role. I’m in full preparation for the European Championships time trial in France, so this result gives me a lot of confidence. Sharing the podium with Margaux made it even more special. One of our goals was to win in Canada, so it’s great that we’ve managed it on the very first day.”

The busy weekend in Canada began with the sixteenth edition of the Chrono Féminin de Gatineau, a 22-kilometre individual time trial. Representing Team Visma | Lease a Bike were Nooijen, Vigié and Achtereekte.

Nooijen was clearly the fastest on the day. The 24-year-old Dutch rider finished forty seconds ahead of American Emily Ehrlich. Team-mate Vigié took a fine third place, 47 seconds down. On Saturday and Sunday the road races follow, where Nooijen, Vigié and Achtereekte will be joined by Martina Fidanza, Sophie von Berswordt and Nienke Veenhoven.
