Team Jumbo-Visma shows itself well in Gooikse Pijl

Team Jumbo-Visma have contested an open and attractive course in the Gooikse Pijl. Timo Roosen finished eighth in the bunch sprint in Belgium.

At the beginning of the one-day race, five riders chose to be in the breakaway. They never got much time, however, and were taken back early. Sports director Jan Boven’s yellow-black brigade joined the battles. Taco van der Hoorn and Bert-Jan Lindeman, among others, joined in with various attacks. The race eventually ended in a bunch sprint, which was won by Dutchman Danny van Poppel.

“The plan was to avoid the bunch sprint”, Boven said. “The boys have done well. They tried to go away in groups, which also worked with Taco and Bert-Jan. However, the peloton never stopped, so we got the bunch sprint that we actually didn’t want. Timo eventually sprinted to eighth place on this beautiful and fast course.”

“I tried to force a little on the hills”, Roosen said. “The sprint was very hectic, but I got in between and participated. However, I didn’t have the strength to really sprint. The pace was very high throughout the race. It is a great preparation for the BinckBank Tour. The intention was to race attractively and we did that well.”
