Team Jumbo-Visma stays on top of things in seventh stage Tour de France

Team Jumbo-Visma guided race leader Jonas Vingegaard through the seventh stage of the Tour de France without any problems. On the flat stage to Bordeaux, the leader's teammates ensured that the Dane stayed safely at the front of the peloton.

In his own words, Vingegaard had an excellent day in the heat towards Bordeaux, where Jasper Philipsen won the bunch sprint. "It was relatively easy today. The temperature was over 30 degrees, but I didn't mind. The morale is excellent. If you had told me at the start of this Tour de France that I would be 25 seconds ahead in the yellow jersey after these seven stages, I would have signed for it in a heartbeat. We are all happy with the way things are going at the moment.”

"Before the race, we calculated that we might be behind after the first week, as Tadej is cut out for this work”, Vingegaard continued. "I am
always not yet at my best at the beginning of a grand tour. I feel like I get a little better every day towards the end. The upcoming stages, combined with the expected heat, might be more in my favour. I am looking forward to the next two weeks”, the general classification leader said.

"Before the race, we calculated that we might be behind after the first week"

Coach Merijn Zeeman was pleased that his team had no problems today. "On days like this, it is essential for us to get to the next day without any problems. The team did an excellent job keeping Jonas out of the frenzy today. It's a strong team effort and nice to see. We hope to do the same on tomorrow's stage. Maybe there will be a chance for Wout van Aert in the final. If we get that chance, we will grab it with both hands.”

"The first seven days are over. We are in good shape”, said the coach after exactly one week in La Grande Boucle. "Before the race, Tadej Pogacar seemed to be the favourite on the course we have seen so far. Jonas and Tadej have shown that they are too good for the rest at the moment, but of course, we know there are other competitors.”
