Teunissen comes up just short in fifth stage of the Benelux Tour

Mike Teunissen has finished seventh in the fifth stage of the Benelux Tour. The 29-year-old Dutchman was well-positioned on the narrow climbs, but just lacked the speed in the sprint for the day’s victory.

The first hilly stage of this stage race saw a breakaway of three riders. They gained a maximum lead of three minutes. Many riders tried to make the race hard by attacking on the short climbs, but nobody got away. In the final, the pace was increased in order to get rid of the sprinters. Dylan Groenewegen was one of the victims. In the sprint of a reduced group, Ewan was the fastest.

Sports director Arthur van Dongen was happy with the teamwork. “The final was hectic to position. On the last climb, the other teams tried to get rid of some guys. Dylan had to let the peloton go. We then started riding for Mike. Timo and Olav did a good job, but some guys were faster. That’s why we didn’t achieve the desired result. The team worked for what it was worth. There are two more days coming up in which some of our men should be able do well. We want to take that opportunity.”
