Vader third in final Tour of Slovakia classification

Vader third in final Tour of Slovakia classification

Colby Simmons has finished seventh in the final stage of the Tour of Slovakia. The promising American put in a strong sprint but could not hold off a late attack from stage winner Kasper Asgreen. Simmons and Milan Vader are the winners of the young rider and mountain classifications.

The final stage of Púchov was a typical sprint stage. A lead group of three riders was caught on the final climb before the bunch descended at full speed to the finish. Team Jumbo-Visma kept Simmons clear until Asgreen made a surprise attack in the last corner. Simmons was alert and immediately pushed for the sprint but could not get past the former Tour of Flanders winner. In addition to the mountain jersey, Vader also took third place in the general classification.

"We can go home happy."

Robert Wagner

"We achieved our main goal by being on the final podium with Milan”, sports director Robert Wagner said. "It's also nice that we won both the mountain jersey and the young rider's jersey. The guys did a great job. Today’s stage ended, as expected, in a sprint. It was a twisty final where we worked for Colby. In the end, he finished in the top ten again. To sum up, we battled with our young riders on every stage. The experienced guys gave them good support, which resulted in a podium finish for Colby on stage two. We can go home happy.”
