Vos rides to a new place of honour in eighth stage of the Giro

In the eighth stage of the Giro d’Italia Donne, Marianne Vos has claimed a place of honour. The wearer of the points jersey rode to fifth place in a bunch sprint in the streets of Mortegliano.

The stage was characterised by three escapees. Due to the high intensity of the sprinter teams, the trio was caught in time. In the inevitable bunch sprint Vos finished in fifth place. Lorena Wiebes took the day’s victory.

"The team has kept me in the front very well."

After the race Vos again praised the work of her team. “The team has kept me in the front very well. The intensity was high. That was necessary to stop the escapees. In the end, thanks to the work of the team, I was in a perfect position to sprint. Fifth place was the best I could do today.”

"We were prepared for a bunch sprint."

Marco Postma

Sports director Marco Postma was satisfied with the result. “In the past week we achieved good results as a team. Today Marianne added a fifth place to that. We were prepared for a bunch sprint. Tomorrow we have to climb again. We will see what the plan will be then.”
